Hanging of the Greens & 1st Sunday of Advent

Home > News and Events > Hanging of the Greens & 1st Sunday of Advent

Advent; It is a time when we prepare ourselves for the coming of our Messiah. Advent means “Coming.” We celebrate these days of Advent in expectation and preparation for Christ’s arrival.

The Advent season is a time for reflection and preparation, but its mood is joyful. Advent has been enriched by Christian tradition to reflect its distinctive Christian meaning. It proclaims the revelation of God’s love as expressed in Christ’s birth in a humble stable, His sacrificial death on the cross, and His victorious resurrection! It points to the hope of Christ’s coming again as the King of kings and Lord of Lords. Advent makes innkeepers out of all of us, asking each of us to make room for the arrival of Christ The King.

November 27, is the First Sunday of Advent. On that Sunday the Advent candle will symbolize Hope, the message on the first Sunday is straight-forward: Jesus is coming again, and unexpectedly. ” Beware, keep alert; for you do not know when the time will come.” Mark 13:33

November 27th is also the evening that we gather together for a very church Family Fun evening for the Hanging of the Greens. The evening begins with a short but special service then we get to have s finger food snack for dinner and start some fun decorating!
